Welcome to May!
Dale Hunter has apparently found the secret for the Caps success. Don’t play your top stars. When Alexander Ovechkin plays less than 20 minutes a game, they win, so far 6-2. In last night’s game, where the Caps tied up the series at 1 with the Rangers, The Great 8 played only 13:36 and Alex Semin logged 12:27. Nicklas Backstrom saw the most of the trio at 16:55. It worked though, Ovechkin picked up the OT winner and sounded like a team player post game. We’ll see if that changes with a loss.
The Kings, my revised pick to go to the Stanley Cup Finals, looked great last against the Blues. L.A. scored a season high 5 goals in the 5-2 victory. It was also Brian Elliott’s first time giving up 4 or more in the playoffs. And it’s all Elliott for the remainder of this series as Halak won’t be back until/if there’s a next round. The goal of the night came shorthanded on a sweet pass by Dustin Brown to Anze Kopitar.
This was the Kings 4th shorthanded goal of the playoffs, Brown’s 4th shorthanded point of the playoffs.
We wish Yu were here. Yu Darvish made his 1st start against Toronto, in Toronto, last night and was devastating to Jays hitters in his 4-1 victory. Darvish went 7 innings, 4 hits, 1 earned run, 2 walks and 9 K’s. The Jays lone run came on yet another home run for EE, who now has 4 in his last 4 games. The significance of this jack… it was the 1st Darvish has given up in the Majors. But let’s not forget about Kyle Drabek who went 6 innings, 5 hits, 2 earned runs, 2 walks and 8 K’s.
The New York Knicks have now lost 12 straight playoff games with their 104-94 loss to Miami last night. But at least they can dunk. Check out Dwayne Wade’s botched attempt last night. Love it when this happens! Not embarrassing at all.
That's it from the couch...for now.
